Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
In this episode of The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry and Jacobe are recapping 2020 and everything that this podcast went through. Listen to hear Jerry and Jacobe discuss their favorite episodes and why they feel they are so memorable.
Episode Highlights:
- In the first year of their podcast, Jerry and Jacobe really found their rhythm and learned a lot.
- Jacobe has found that having his own podcast has allowed him to open up his mind to perspectives that he has never thought of before.
- Jerry can’t believe that Jacobe used to be such an avid gamer based on where he is right now.
- Most of the 16 episodes were based on things that Jerry and Jacobe were going through at the time.
- Episode 4 was Jerry’s favorite because it allowed him to reflect on big life events that have led him to where he is today.
- 2020 is going to be on everyone’s list of major life events where everyone will remember the impact that it had on their lives.
- The first episode is Jacobe’s favorite because it was first and they discussed how to keep great relationships.
- Staying authentic and genuine is so important when trying to find the people that are a good match for your life.
- Relationships don’t only end when something is bad; good relationships transition rather than end.
- While good relationships may fall in your lap, it takes being intentional to keep those people in your life.
- Rather than automatically tell someone that they did a good job, be authentic and give them feedback.
- You’re not responsible for someone’s reaction to your feedback, but you are responsible for the intention with which you give it.
- Jerry thoroughly enjoyed the episode titled How To Make Money in Real Estate because there are a million ways to do it.
- Jacobe believes that everyone should know about real estate because it affects everyone’s life.
- No matter what market you are in, the focus in real estate should be on how to help people.
- Jacobe is helping realtors purchase discounted properties as well as purchasing properties himself.
- Currently, most of what Jerry is doing is acting as a classical realtor while also dabbling in the house-flipping and probate markets.
- When getting into real estate it’s important to have your goals in mind, though the end-game doesn’t need to be concrete.
- Learning to control what you can control and let everything else happen is so important in all aspects of life.
- With so many things happening this year that are out of our control, it’s important to not let fear be the driving factor.
- Sacrificing to get what you want is just part of life, but you can control what it is that you sacrifice.
- Clarity makes sacrifice much easier because it allows you to know where you are at, where you are going, and what you need to sacrifice.
- A lot of what Jacobe does and the sacrifices that he makes stems from wanting to provide for his family.
- Jerry learned how to get over the hurdle of managing his money from lessons learned in Profit First.
- Most business owners and people operate by paying their bills before keeping their profit and this isn’t the right method.
- Jerry and Jacobe have changed their lives and businesses according to a plethora of resources that they tapped into this year.
- Tony Robbins has taught Jerry and Jacobe a lot of great lessons from both his in-person and digital events.
- This week’s feature, Time To Invest, discusses the probate market.
- Probate and estates are segments of the market that Jerry markets towards, despite it being an emotional time for those families.
- While some people react negatively, Jerry and his team have been able to help many people through tough times.
- There are three ways that Jerry helps people caught up in a probate or estate situation.
3 Key Points:
- Throughout the year. and the 16 episodes that have been completed, Jerry and Jacobe focused mainly on things that were happening in their lives at that moment in time.
- It’s important to remember that everyone goes through their own seasons in life that bring changes. Hopefully, people can change for the better.
- Throughout their lives, Jerry and Jacobe have realized the importance of learning to control only what is in their control. With the explosion of a pandemic and cultural tensions, this year taught many people that lesson.

Tuesday Dec 22, 2020

Episode Highlights:
- With COVID, the election, George Floyd, and everything else that happened this year, there were a lot of lessons to be learned.
- Jacobe learned that no matter what happens in your personal life or in the world, life goes on.
- For both Jerry and Jacobe, the travel that was once a major part of their lives has had to change dramatically.
- Zoom went from a backup plan to a necessity for anyone that wants their business to survive.
- Once everything opened up again, the real estate floodgates have been flowing.
- Jerry has been able to learn the importance of relationships, both with his family and the people that he doesn’t see on a daily basis.
- With so much time being spent at home, it’s important to take advantage of all the extra time with the family.
- As people have died that are connected to Jerry and Jacobe, they have started to put the important things into perspective.
- Jerry and Jacobe live in different markets and that has widened their perspectives as to how the virus has affected people differently.
- Jacobe has found out that he has more things in common with people as he has had more deep conversations this year.
- Outside sources of media and social media make it seem like we are completely divided, which just isn’t the truth.
- The news will take out the most graphic part of the article and make it the title in order to shock the viewers into reading the article.
- It’s so important to do your own research because of the sheer amount of information that is available on a wide variety of topics.
- Focus on the things that are really important to move your life forward and not just what is being promoted on the news.
- Jerry has used this year to shift his goals and get clarity on those goals by making them more specific.
- Both Jerry and Jacobe changed brokerages this year, a decision that changed the paths of their lives.
- Looking to the future of technology in the real estate industry led Jerry and Jacobe to switch brokerages.
- The government tried to do what it could with the stimulus package, but it wasn’t enough for everyone.
- There are only so many expenses that people can cut from their lives in dire financial situations.
- 2020 has been a year to add skills to your tool belt as it will take innovation to make it through the uncertainties of the world.
- The need to be on video for realtors has never been more apparent, so make sure your skillset is up to par.
- Not just realtors, but everyone, needs to adapt and learn new skills and progress as individuals and teams.
- There will always be something in the world to be afraid of, so you must make the choice to not live in fear.
- This week’s Time to Invest feature covers appreciation.
- Forced appreciation is the effects of investor actions, such as renovations, on the value of the property.
- Market appreciation is more like gambling where you hope the property appreciates based on the market.
- You should always make your decisions when purchasing real estate on forced appreciation.
3 Key Points:
- Never has there been a year where it has been more important to learn what is in your control. Even while the world goes into a state of chaos, you have to navigate through.
- While the news paints the world as very divided, Jerry and Jacobe have found that we all want the same things at the end of the day.
- Though there was nothing wrong with their situations, Jerry and Jacobe were thinking forward to the future of their industry when they decided to switch brokerages.

- The LCA Facebook group opened up the door to communicate with the Facebook team and ultimately expand.
- Tristan has multiple income streams including a real estate team, the Facebook group, and investment in real estate and tech.
- As a young boy, Tristan’s parents encouraged him to get uncomfortable by introducing himself to everyone at church which helped him later on in life.
- Whenever Tristan gets a sales call, he has to sit through the entire thing because he never knows where the great ideas are going to come from.
- Jacobe finds himself listening to sales pitches all the time because he doesn’t expect people to listen to him if he does not do the same.
- Tristan attributes his success in real estate to his ability to utilize tried and trusted processes, and not holding back.
- Jerry firmly believes that if you are willing to put up the money for a coach, you should follow the advice that they give you.
- It’s a fact in life that you will not agree on everything with everyone in your life, but you must learn to work together despite that.
- In a relationship, you have to be able to pick your battles because there is not always a need for friction.
- Throughout the years, Tristan has been able to build a level of trust where his wife knows that he is always making the responsible decision.
- Sometimes we don’t know when we make a mistake, but having the ability to step back and consider the feelings of your spouse will take you a long way.
- Success without sacrifice goes beyond not sacrificing your friends and family to all aspects of the self.
- You’ll always be the victim if you are not working on yourself mentally, spiritually, and physically.
- As a dietician, Tristan’s wife gave him the diet that would get him to where he wanted to be while remaining manageable.
- Tristan’s fitness journey has taught him to lead by example and how to communicate with his wife on a deeper level.
- Over the last few years, Tristan has transitioned more into a leadership coach outside of real estate.
3 Key Points:
- Tristan believes that it is absolutely vital to have your priorities in order if you want to maintain both a healthy personal life and a successful career.
- The Lab Coat Agents Facebook page is the largest real estate online community and it focuses on sharing tried and true processes and systems with agents all over the world.
- Before making any large investment or purchase, Tristan makes sure it aligns with his principles and his wife has signed off. This is how he stops himself from buying everything.

Episode 14: Why Is It So Hard to Make Big Decisions?
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
In this episode of the Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick talk about making hard decisions. We all make decisions every single day, but some carry more weight and impact our lives more, or at least we think they do. Listen to hear how Jerry & Jacobe prepare and anticipate making big decisions.
Episode Highlights:
- Jacobe recently decided to change real estate brokerages after 5 years with the same brokerage.
- It’s been a huge mental battle for Jacobe as he makes a big change in his life and career.
- Jerry has also decided to switch brokerages based on who is going to be involved rather than his “why”.
- Jerry thinks that both the unknown and leaving the comfort of what has been built deter people from making hard decisions.
- Some people like chaos while others like knowing exactly what is coming their way.
- Jerry makes sure to see all the positives in a decision while also keeping in mind what to do if things go bad.
- If you know what your goals are and where you want to go, big decisions become easier to make.
- Mike Tyson knows best, “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face”.
- The only reason that Jacobe decided to take a look at eXp Realty, his new brokerage, was because of the person that told him to.
- It only took 2-3 days after the phone call for Jacobe to decide to switch, leaning on his emotions to help make the decision.
- Jacobe’s excitement and enthusiasm about the decision made Jerry take another look at the company.
- Jerry has a lot of respect for his current broker and is not looking forward to talking to them in the next few days about his decision.
- Jacobe knows that the people in his circle want what is best for him, even if it means not working with them.
- What makes Jerry nervous is the worry of what people, like his broker, are going to think of him when he announces his decision.
- With all his pent-up emotion, Jacobe decided to talk to his current broker earlier than he thought he would.
- Jacobe would rather be proactive than reactive, attacking things on his own terms.
- Waiting to approach a situation that makes you uncomfortable will only make it harder when it comes time to handle it.
- It’s important to leave people in a better situation than you found them but also to remember that you have no control over their emotions.
- Jerry started to paint a bigger picture of his life about 5 or 6 years ago and this helped him to start making big decisions.
- Wearing the pants in a relationship is not about domination, but more about being a leader.
- Achieving things that help move you towards your goals will make those worries about what others think about you start to fall away.
- Jerry knows that this decision is something that will involve emotions from more people than just him and his broker.
- Switching brokerages is not the same thing as switching careers, just switching platforms.
- This week’s Time to Invest feature focuses on creating a team to become a better investor.
- You need 6 good people on your team: a realtor, wholesaler, accountant, financial planner, home inspector, and contractor.
3 Key Points:
- Both Jerry and Jacobe are in the process of changing real estate brokerages, a large decision that will alter the future of their careers and lives.
- Effective preparation will help make these big decisions easier, but it’s important to know what is and what is not in your control.
- It’s always better to stay proactive rather than reactive. Attacking situations rather than waiting for them to come to you will keep things on your own terms.

Episode 13: Take Yourself From Zero to Hero
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
In this episode of the Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick talk about success stories from their lives that took them over the hump, from where they were before, to where they are now. Listen in to hear inspiring strategies that can help motivate you to take yourself from zero to hero.
Episode Highlights:
- There are two things that you need to know if you want to go from where you are to where you want to be.
- Jerry’s problem when he was at the zero mark was that he was in survival mode, reacting to life instead of being proactive.
- Jacobe used to have a victim mentality where life was happening to him instead of for him.
- It takes a growth mindset journey before you can go from a reactive mindset to a proactive mindset.
- For Jacobe, working with Tony Robbins was the catalyst that set him on that growth mindset journey.
- Fully committing to follow Christ and choosing the self-help route were the two steps that Jacobe took to change his life.
- You have a choice in all situations and you can choose between the negative and the positive.
- Things started to change for Jacobe when he began to default to the positive.
- People tend to default to the negative as a defense mechanism so that they won’t be as disappointed when things don’t work out.
- Now, Jacobe expects good things to happen because he has started to forget about the bad things.
- Knowing where you truly are in life takes absolute honesty with yourself.
- Use your emotions as a propellant to get you where you want a go; do not let them hinder you.
- Jerry knew that he had been dishonest with himself, exaggerating the negatives about his persona more than he focused on his positive attributes.
- A desire to start a discussion of legacy in his family has motivated Jerry to instill great qualities into his children.
- One of the most important tools that Jerry has gained is the ability to recognize what is actually true in this world.
- Jacobe gave up his video game lifestyle in order to build something much larger than himself.
- The real work comes between where you are now and where you want to go, breaking down the day-to-day activities.
- Living in survival mode for a large portion of his life left Jerry without the knowledge of his “why”.
- The birth of his son changed the trajectory of Jacobe’s life from a selfish one, to one dedicated to other people.
- It doesn’t take that much more work or effort to leave people in a better place than when you found them.
- Though the world is portrayed as one filled with negativity right now, there are still plenty of positives going on.
- One of the last survivors of Pearl Harbor told Jacobe that you are never 100% right, no matter how right you think you are.
- There are multiple sides to every story, whether it’s one you are telling yourself or to someone else.
- Jacobe presents this week’s Time to Invest feature on investing in foreclosures.
- The foreclosure process allows lenders to recoup the money that they are owed in the case of defaulted payments.
- Plenty of people have made businesses out of lending money and going through the foreclosure process.
- The value of the property and what is left on the loan will tell you if it is a good investment opportunity.
- Foreclosure is just a process, not a guaranteed good deal.
3 Key Points:
- Survival, stability, security, success, and significance are the 5 steps to get from zero to hero. First, you have to know where you are and where you want to go.
- When it comes to defaulting to the positive or negative, a shift in mindset will help you realize that it’s just as easy to choose the positive than it is negative.
- To get from where you are to where you want to be, you must know your “why.” Knowing your “why” will give you the motivation that you need to do the necessary work.

Episode 12: Change Yourself Before You Change Your World
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
In this episode of The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick discuss the concept of change and how for your world to change around you, you must first change from within. True change is hard for just about everyone, but with the right practices and environment, anything is possible!
Episode Highlights:
- Jerry has had a hard time getting to the weight that he wants because he continues to do the same thing over and over again.
- Jacobe believes that Jerry is great at losing weight but is also good at putting it back on.
- Both Jerry and Jacobe have participated in fantasy football with the same groups for years, but Jacobe finally dropped out.
- There are a plethora of different pieces that one can change when they want a different life.
- People are not very self-aware of the problem or do not believe in their ability to make a change.
- Mental and self-work is necessary to get you to any goal that you have set your sights on.
- We all have things that need to change but we just aren’t aware that those problems exist.
- Whenever it’s time to put his kids to bed, Jacobe’s kids start to wind up, so he is aware that something needs to change.
- Willpower works in the beginning, but over the long haul you must set up a success-based environment.
- As Jacobe prepares for the PanAmerican Championships, he has created an environment to avoid eating in a manner that would hurt his performance.
- Jacobe uses jiu-jitsu as an environment to stay in shape and self-confident.
- There is a large gap between your reasons and motivations to make a change and the necessary action steps to do so.
- People do not inherently like conflict but need to prepare themselves nonetheless.
- Jerry and Jacobe know plenty of high-performing individuals that use jiu-jitsu as a way to learn self-discipline.
- Jerry believes that you need a good mentor/coach and someone to hold you accountable when making a change in your life.
- Paying for a coach will help break down the trust barrier, knowing that their advice is coming from their professional knowledge.
- If you don’t want to take a coach’s advice or follow their plan, then don’t pay them.
- Jacobe believes that it’s important to move backward to make a change in order to move forward.
- Compare yourself to your own potential as compared to everybody else.
- It takes a certain amount of mental strength to know that you must get worse in order to get better.
- Jacobe has shifted his mindset from one of individual pursuit to one that works to help the team be successful.
- We make the mistake of overestimating our short-term goals and underestimating our long-term goals.
- Today’s feature, Time to Invest, discusses if you should get your real estate license as an investor.
- Jerry gives 6 reasons why real estate investors would benefit from getting their real estate license.
3 Key Points:
- You must know that change is necessary and possible before you can make it happen.
- Willpower can only take you so far. You must be willing to change your strategies throughout the process in order to create the right environment.
- 2 crucial pieces of making a significant change in your life are having a good mentor/coach and having someone in your life that will hold you accountable.

Episode 11: Become a Positive Influence
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
In this episode of The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick talk about the most influential people in their lives. Think about who makes the biggest impact on your life and what those people mean to you. At the same time, think about who you are influencing and what your actions mean for their lives!
Episode Highlights:
- Jerry knows that his wife and his children are massive influences on his life, being the people that he spends the most time with.
- Jacobe believes that every person in your life influences you in some way.
- There lies a mix of people that you choose to be influential in your life and those that just happen to be in your life for a short period of time.
- Jacobe’s parents played a huge part in where he is today as a real estate agent, entrepreneur, and a man.
- Influence from our parents can be positive or negative, but it’s like osmosis; their actions and behaviors soak into us.
- Sometimes, your pride doesn’t want to admit that negative people have actually influenced your life.
- Jerry’s grandmother made him feel as if he was the only thing that mattered to her and that really made him feel special.
- Coming from opposite upbringings, Jerry and Jacobe have come to develop the same mindset about wanting what’s best for their families.
- Both of their parents were in a generation made up of hard workers who took care of their families, no matter what.
- Jacobe’s wife is always challenging things that she doesn’t believe line up with their family values.
- The actions of your children are a direct reflection of your influence on them, but also have an influence on you.
- Jacobe strives to build a business in a way that he can help people earn a great living while also spending more time with his family.
- Jerry believes that sitting back and letting his children struggle with marital challenges makes them stronger as people.
- People can have a large influence on your life without ever actually being in your life.
- It’s not a new thing to be an influencer, it’s just presented differently now than it has been throughout time.
- Simple ways to influence people include things as small as supportive text messages.
- Be intentionally encouraging with other’s passions so you can influence them to be great in what they care about.
- Stay authentic and intentional with how you show care to others.
- Be specific with the criteria that you have for choosing who influences you; don’t put anyone on a pedestal.
- Make sure the people that you allow to influence your life have values that line up with your own.
- Learn to control the things in your life that you can control, and let the rest fall into place as it will.
- Become a positive influence by putting people first and leaving people better off than when they met you.
- Jerry shares this episode’s Time to Invest feature - the practice of wholesaling real estate and how to do it proficiently.
3 Key Points:
- Our family members tend to have large influences on our lives as they are the first people we see everyday, and they are also the people that we spend the most time with.
- It’s incredibly important to be aligned, value-wise, with your spouse or significant other. Each spouse must challenge each other when things don’t align with those values.
- People don’t have to be related to you, or even know you, to have a large influence on your life. Influencers are everywhere.

Episode 10: Does Hard Work Always Pay Off?
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
In this episode of The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick talk about getting out what you put into things. Does hard work always pay off? The truth is, without clarity on where you want to be, that hard work won’t get you any closer to your goal. Decide where you want to be and what you need to do to get there!
Episode Highlights:
- Continuous hustle is great but it doesn’t always pay off like you hear about on social media.
- It’s important to take hustling and other trends in doses or else you may burn out.
- Hustling for the sake of hustling doesn’t get you anywhere if you are not getting done what you need to get done.
- There are seasons when it comes to long days, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you always have to miss out on sleep.
- Jerry used to work two full-time jobs, and worked harder than he ever had, but it didn’t necessarily pay off.
- Focus on the things that actually move the needle in whatever you do.
- Knowing what questions to ask in any industry can prepare you for the right conversations and help you avoid wasting time.
- Roleplaying through a plethora of different situations will help prepare you to handle a variety of objections.
- Put yourself in as many different scenarios as possible and practice those conversations so it is less likely that you will be caught off guard.
- Just like life, entrepreneurship is a learning journey that never really comes to an end.
- The first time that you answer a question is going to be hard because you’re not going to have any idea what to say.
- There are only so many objections that you will face and so there are only so many things that you have to learn.
- Once you become proficient at the fundamentals and foundation, then you can start to become an expert at something.
- Work becomes art once you start to become the master of something.
- Becoming the best at anything requires hard work that is focused on the right aspects of the journey.
- There is not enough time in this life to be the best at everything that you do, so figure out what you want to get out of something.
- You can give your best every single day, but that might not translate to being number 1 in what you are doing.
- You can only control the seven domains in your life that you are responsible for; focus on those things.
- If you look at the day-to-day, your success will appear to be up and down all the time.
- Know that regardless of the ups and downs that you will go through, you can still trend upward over time.
- It’s going to take hard work on the way to your goal, and to maintain your goal, but that hard work will look different at both stages.
- Whether you reach your goal or not, success is determined by if you become who you need to become.
- People who make it tend to realize that it’s not what they thought it would be and that things haven’t changed too much.
- Think about your exit strategy when it comes time to invest in anything.
- Many business owners never thought about how they were going to exit their businesses and that can mean disaster.
3 Key Points:
- It’s incredibly important to figure out the things that move you forward in your business, the things that move the needle, and focus on solely those things to avoid wasting time.
- Putting that work in will help you predict what is going to come next. The more time that you put into anything will inevitably make you better at it.
- Figure out what you want to be the best at, then decide what that actually means to you. Be the best that you can be. That’s all anyone can ask for.

Episode 09: How Small Losses Can Still Lead to Victory
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
In this episode of the The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick talk about how small failures can still lead to big wins. They discuss the importance of defining your goals so that you know which battles to focus on and what matters most to you, while relating it back to their experiences as fathers, entrepreneurs, and athletes.
Episode Highlights:
- Think about whether the little battle matters in the grand scheme of things.
- We are conditioned to believe we’re always supposed to win.
- The battle may not matter if it doesn’t impact you winning the war, but that requires you to know what war you’re fighting.
- Jerry’s son has diabetes, and his family had a goal of establishing a good relationship with the office staff at his son’s school because they would be dealing with them so much. That took priority over “losing” small battles where the staff was rude.
- For Jacobe, he sees this dynamic play out in jiu jitsu.
- Jacobe has found that he learns more from a loss than a win.
- This translates to intentionality with your time, whether that’s in spending time with your kids, or your work, or something else.
- Jerry notices a difference in his relationships with his oldest son and his youngest based on how focused he was on work during their formative years.
- As a parent, you want to fix everything for your kid, but the skills you should actually be cultivating in them is the ability to handle problems themselves and to tolerate failure.
- Success is a volume game; if you make 10 phone calls to get a new listing, you will probably fail, but if you make 1,000 calls, you will probably succeed.
- In marketing, a 2% response rate to a mailing is a huge success.
- You have to define what success is for you so that you have something to gauge against your actions.
- If your coach says something that hurts you or bothers you, focus on knowing that your coach wants what’s best for you, instead of allowing a small argument to derail you.
- There’s a difference between principles and values.
- Do you want to be a passive investor or an active investor?
- An active investor goes out, finds deals, and flips homes.
- A passive investor is more of a money partner for investors.
- Consider your risk tolerance level.
3 Key Points:
- Sometimes the small loss or failure has no impact on the outcome of your goal.
- A loss often teaches you more than a win.
- Define what success means to you.

In this episode of The Jerry & Jacobe Podcast, hosts Jerry Weaver and Jacobe Kendrick discuss the ways in which your past can seem to determine your present and future, and how to move away from that misconception to find more freedom. They discuss identifying what is true about the assumptions you’re making, how fear holds us back, and more.
Episode Highlights:
- How does your past affect your present and future, and how can you prevent it from defining your outcomes?
- Look for the most improved player award instead of most valuable player award.
- Jacobe wants his kids to maximize their full potential, even if that means they don’t make more money than he does, or exceed him in some other metric.
- Sometimes, your biggest issue now involves something that happened in your past.
- One of Jacobe’s favorite Bible verses on this topic is 7 Corinthians 5:17.
- Jerry believes the biggest hurdle is fear.
- The way you respond to fear and respond to the unknown is within your control, even if what happens is not.
- We tend to trap ourselves in the person we think that we are, and that eliminates the possibility of us becoming the person we either know we should or could be.
- Whatever your goal is, your mind is capable of connecting the dots from where you are now to how you will achieve that goal.
- Jacobe’s parents used to tell him he was the best at whatever he did, and he realizes, now as a father himself, that what they were saying was that they loved him no matter what.
- Jerry’s father always said he was unsuccessful and would never come in first place, and that became the truth Jerry operated with for years.
- Jerry recounts a story from, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, about taking the time to sharpen your saw to make your work easier and more efficient.
- Jerry believes that God will use his weaknesses much more than He will ever use his strengths.
- Even if you think you have something figured out, you’re always going to encounter a problem somewhere and eventually you are going to need to ask for help.
- Jacobe acknowledges that you can spend too much time dwelling on the past and worrying about the future, and emphasizes focusing on the present.
- At the same time, having a sense of urgency about the future is a good motivation to get things done in the present.
- Sometimes, not having a plan B is what will force you to succeed.
- Jerry doesn’t spend much time thinking about his past because he doesn’t like it, and says his past trained him to focus on the present and neglect future goals.
- Jacobe likes to look at what people say on their deathbeds and use it as guidance, because a lot of people express regrets like wishing they’d spent more time with their families.
- Your past doesn’t define your future.
- For investors, you should know if your agent is also an investor.
- Investors should also take a look at the kinds of investors you’re currently working with.
3 Key Points:
- Fear related to something in your past is often the main thing holding you back in the present.
- Always question whether what you’re responding to is the truth.
- Sometimes it’s helpful to create a sense of urgency by not having a plan B.
